In spirit of the current Olympics I thought it would be fun to have some ’semi-final results’ of the current submissions per country.
- Spain: 103
- Germany: 96
- UK: 94
- France: 78
- Italy: 67
- Netherlands: 42
- Norway: 30
- Czech: 22
- Switzerland: 21
- Austria: 16
- Latvia: 9
In total that is over 600 submissions, and some are still unapproved in the backend. It does not come as a big surprise that the bigger countries have more submissions but that is not what this is about. It is about discovery and new influences!
Beautiful, yet scary
As a curious person I visited some of the podcasts to get a feeling for the different aspects of European podcasting. And I have to admit: It was beautiful and scary at the same time. Beautiful because of the variety of participants, topics voices and more.
Scary because it also shows the variety in languages and different preferences for how to make a podcast web site look like. Looking at the web site I tried to find out what language this is, and I did listen in to some of the episodes if written word and audio ’sounded’ anything alike.
I know one thing for sure: I want a working Babelfish! (Some may not know the reference, it is from the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy: A fish you insert into your ear which automatically translates everything you hear to a language you understand.)
Visit even if you do not understand the language
Not understanding a word of most sites I visited – after all I only speak German and English with some very basics of French – I still had a very good time looking around. Why? Because they gave me inspirations of how good a website for a podcast can look like or some clever ideas how to arrange show notes. :) Especially when you do not understand anything you can pay more attention to how a good site looks like.
There must be more than this!
I am sure there are more than 9 podcasts in Latvia, so if anybody has an idea where to find more, please ping me. :)

On the contrary, there are quite many podcasts in Denmark, but for some reason there is no Danish page, there has been no talk about the award in The Danish podcaster community. If it is not too late, I could maybe get some Danish podcasts submitted…
Also – wouldn´t it be a good idea to put the flags up on every page, so one can switch to different languages other than from this page http://www.european-podcast-award.eu (which is not the “Start” page.

Hei Karin,
as explained on the website the award is in the first year restricted on some of the linguistic communties and is going to expand for the next year – which would include Denmark and Sweden of course.
But I would love if you have one of your articles ready giving an overview of the Danish podcasting scene – as mentioned in http://blog.european-podcast-award.eu/european-sites-for-podcasting-26
I am looking for stuff from all over Europe! :)
