Hamburg, January 2009 — The second European Podcast Award, the only Europe-wide award honouring the most popular and professional audio podcasts, has now begun. The award enables producers and podcast fans alike to nominate their choice of candidates and also rate them at www.european-podcast-award.eu. Nominations can be submitted via the portal up until 15 March 2010. In 2010, Olympus Audio Systems will once again be supporting the “Initiative European Podcast Award” as its exclusive sponsor.

Last year, over 750 audio podcasts were nominated from across Europe. A total of eleven European countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, UK, France, Spain, Italy, Holland, Czech Republic, Denmark and Poland) are taking part in the second European Podcast Award, which will be overseen by a specialist editorial jury in each country. In May 2010, a total of 44 national winners will be selected in the categories “Personality”, “Non Profit”, “Business” and “Professional”. Four of these will then go on to receive the title of “European Podcasts of the Year” and one will be awarded the “European Podcast Excellence Award”.

This year’s coveted top prize will once again be the brand-new Olympus LS-11 mobile audio recorder including the Cubase 4 LE production software from Steinberg.

Top-quality nominations for the European Podcast Award

Over 600 audio podcasts from 11 nations have already been nominated for the European Podcast Award. According to an announcement made by the initiative hosting the contest with the support of Olympus Audio Systems, most of the podcasts are of very high quality. Proposals for nominations are still being accepted until 15 September.

The award has “reached” almost every podcast producer in Europe in just a few weeks and is being much talked about.

The European dimension of the award is new and unique. “The podcasts offer an impressive variety of languages and creativity, and it’s simply fun listening to Europe,” explained social media expert Nicole Simon, who oversees the official EPA blog (http://blog.european-podcast-award.eu/).

Nicole Simon has been blogging and podcasting for years and has noticed a “quiet boom” in podcasting internationally: “Audio is quick and flexible to produce, especially using high-quality, affordable, mobile recorders. Podcasts can be listened to almost anywhere and also in the background – no other medium offers this combination.” Universities, institutes and associations in particular have realised this and are already reaping the benefits.

Votes for the award can be cast online for all podcasts nominated at http://www.europan-podcast-award.eu. As an extra incentive, voters will have the opportunity to win a brand new Olympus-LS-10 high-end PCM recorder, which is already being named the “pocket studio” and has wowed audio experts around the world.

Awards will finally be given to the podcasts by a panel of experts, who will be judging the candidates on content, creation, continuity and presentation.

Hamburg, 10. June 2008 – With the European Podcast Award the first European competition has started to award prizes for the best Audio-Podcasts. Producers and podcast fans as of now have the opportunity to nominate and rate podcasts on the page www.european-podcast-award.eu. Olympus Audio Systems is the exclusive sponsor and has made the initiative possible.

Podcasts in the categories „Personality“, „Non Profit“, „Business“ and „Professional“ will be awarded prizes. Eleven European countries (Germany, UK, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Norway, Holland, Czech Republic, France and Latvia) are taking part in the first European Podcast Award, which will be supervised on the national scale by an editorial panel of experts. They will award the prizes to the winners of the countries taking part and finally also to the winners of the „European Podcasts Of The Year 2008“. The portal will accept online ratings and proposals for nominations until 20. September .
